Members of the Caribbean Student Association (with advisor Cary Lazarus) and
the International Student Organization (advisor Maria Lugo) from Norfolk State
University visited Washington D.C. to tour the U.S. Capitol and Native American
Museum. The one day trip sponsored by NSU Student Affairs and Lazarus
Foundation to the nation’s capitol involved fifteen students from countries such
as Kenya, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Bahamas, Haiti, and Jamaica to name a few
countries.
The students not only had
the opportunity to tour the Capitol, but also were able to meet Senator
John Warner (Republican) from Virginia and
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton(Democrat) from New York. The President of the Lazarus Foundation, David Lazarus, also
had the opportunity to spend a day with this group of students from Norfolk State University telling them some of the
historical importance for the sites in the Capitol. David also spoke to the students about not for profit
organizations such as Lazarus Foundations and its role in society.
It was such a pleasure to see the excitement and appreciation that the students brought from Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia to Washington D.C. I am glad the Foundation was able to support and participate in such an event. These events are only possible because of the contributions of others. The Lazarus Foundation would like to say thank you to all of our sponsors!
